Porch Observations

Porch Cat, 5:18 AM

Blog Entry #2 2025-06-27, Albuquerque, NM USA

The Ghost on My Porch

Checked the feed from the household security cams. The back porch cam caught this little guy. Again.

Notice the timestamps.

This little grey cat visits my backporch once a week.

Every Thursday, give or take, around 4:30–5:30 AM, this little grey cat shows up like clockwork. It’s been at least three weeks now.

What’s his (her?) story? Is he just a frightened kitten, dodging cars and coyotes, looking for a family and a forever home? Is he going door to door, trying every one, hoping someone will let him in, keep him warm and safe?

Free-range cats don’t last long out here in the still mostly Wild West.

Maybe he’s like one of Bukowski’s cats: fighting and fucking his way from the West Mesa to the Rio Grande and back, defying the odds, being the most cat a cat can be.

Maybe that’s why he comes to the door. Showing my cat Annie he knows this house is warm and safe, but free and wild beats warm and safe any day of the week.

I thought about naming him. Bob suggested polling you all for ideas. The more that thought rattles around in my brainpan, the more wrong it feels. He’s already got a name. Only he knows it.

Hope he doesn’t end up coyote chow. Stay safe out there, little dude.

Anyone else have a porch cat who’s a ghost and a guest at the same time? Drop a pic or a porch cat story if you’ve got one..

Did this flip a switch? Tug at a heart string? Tickle a funny bone? Let me know. All comments are welcome.Cancel reply

Why Patterns Feel Convincing

Your brain evolved to spot trends because patterns once kept you alive. Lotteries do not care about your instincts, logic, or birthday strategies.

What this is:
A way to explore how humans look for patterns in randomness.

What this is not:
A system for beating the lottery.

Why Quantum Randomness Matters

Quantum randomness cannot be predicted or replayed. If you rewound the universe and ran the experiment again, the result would be different.

What Is Entropy?

Entropy is unpredictability. In this context, it means the numbers cannot be guessed in advance, even by the system generating them.
